I have read almost all of the posts and replies regarding
this seemingly common problem. I also have tried every
fix that Symantec posts on their Support site. I even got
through to them on the phone and after 45 minutes the
answer was " we can't fix your problem, call Microsoft".
Anyway, I installed NIS 2004 on Win 98 and it worked
perfect until I upgraded my PC to XP. While every other
program runs fine, I still cannot install NIS 2004. There
seem to be 2 errors, and the first one starts with what
seems to be an error free install, NIS unpacks, the
install utility runs OK, but during the install the
progress bar stops at the same exact spot 100% of the
time, "ms.config" file freezes the install and I
get "encountered an error, do you want to try again"? The
only way out is to select "cancel" and NIS promptly
removes the rest of NIS. At the end of the auto uninstall
I get " setup encountered and error" and thats all, no
error codes at all. The other is I get in a
continous "restart loop" I never get past the message
that the "previous version was uninstalled and should be
restarted. Both errors are discussed in the Symantec
website but their missing something...my opinion. I have
uninstalled all the way to the Registry, clean booted XP,
removed XP and reformatted my hardrive, and tried
virtually every possible fix I could find on the Web. I
don't know what else to do, I have a $85.00 program that
I cannot use... Any fresh ideas out there? Appreciate
any help at all. Thanks.
