Nikon Coolscan V - Software Tool for GEM after scanning

Hi,

I am using the Nikon Coolscan V for archiving my 35mm slides. As a general
rule, I apply no corrections to the initial scan such as histogram/curve
correction or sharpening with the scan software, but scan only in 16bit
color depth and ICE on because every software finishing can be done better
later.

Only I don't have a software tool for film grain correction, which is called
"GEM" in the NikonScan software. IMO this function is essential for scan
quality of slides (kodachrome, elitechrome, Fuji Provia). The Nikon Scan GEM
is superior to the vuescan grain reduction, but is also costs a considerable
amount of sharpness, so I also would like to apply GEM in post-process where
I can try and adjust parameters to find an optimum.

Does anyone know a good "post-scan" GEM tool, (PS plugin or standalone)
which is equal or better to the well performing NikonScan GEM?

Here is an example for the NikonScan GEM function:

middle: GEM 1

You can also go to the GEM folks themselves (http://www.asf.com). They
have a couple of plut-in products under the GEM name.
Not sure if they are as good as the GEM they embed in Nikonscan. It
seems so silly(that's a nice word) that they (Nikon) do
not allow post processing of the scans.
