Nikon Coolscan V -- **NO** Scan Window opens

HELP! just bought this piece of kit at great expense .. no "scan
window" opens? Also the negative strip only loads 3/4 way ... I am
guessing one problem is causing the other?

Anyone else experienced this? or have any tips? Am gutted. Spent 5
hours on Sunday organising 17years worth of film negatives and now the
machine doesn't get past first base ...

Using Nikon Coolscan V with Mac OSX 10.3.8

Do you have at least 550 MB of free space on your hard drive?
And do you have 512 MB of RAM installed? 128 MB is the minimum of RAM
required on OS X. More RAM is better.

"5 hours on Sunday..." is nothing. No sympathy whatsoever.

You've got a dozen hours of study ahead of you before you're doing work
that will make you happy. It does sound like you've got an inadequate
computer...don't know Macs, but if it was a PC I'd say it was cluttered
with trash and would advocate clicking on disc cleanup. A PC would
require 1G of ram to be happy, half that to function.
