NIC driver update

My mahine running on WIn XP has a compex NIC. My ADSL Internet
connection is not optimal with this NIC. It is recognises as Realtek by
XP and XP driver is being used. I had tried to change driver to the one
provided by the NIC manufacturer. But XP refused saying that it found
no betetr driver. Now I have found that updates are available for the
drivers from the NIC manufacturer wesbsite. I dwonloaded them but XP is
stubborn about them saying that no better driver is found.
How could I possibly update the driver?
Thanks in advance

Try this,

From Control Panel choose network connections (in classic view),
Right click on the connection and choose properties
Click on configure next to network card name
Click on the Driver tab
Click on Update Driver
Select No not at this time, for windows to search for updates, click next
Select, Install from a list or specific location, click next
Select Don't search I will choose the driver
Click on Have Disk
Click on Browse and specify the location of the driver you downloaded.
You will need to choose the directory that contains the inf file.
Click Open, Then click next.

If you have any issues with the new driver, use Roll Back Driver to uninstall.
