hi,

I accidently changed the program used to open up NFO files
and don't know what program actually opened them in the
first place.

I think they are system information files, but when trying
the 'system information' program in Start
menu/Programs/Accessories/System Tools, an error message
comes up saying that the file is 'NOT A VALID WIN32
APPLICATION'.

What program am I looking for?

Any help would be great... thanks

In the registry add this key if you do not have it:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nfo

Then on the right set the (Default) to:

MSInfo.Document

That should do it.

Most NFO files you find in internet usually are not the Windows NFO files (System
Information).
They are text description of various warez - readable with notepad.
(Somebody wrote a viewer for those latter files that correctly displays all the
funny graphic characters.)
In case the .NFO files are Windows sys. info, there are three different formats:
win98, win2000 and XP.
MS is compatibility challenged... live with it.
