Is there a way to open Outlook's version of newsreader without opening
Outlook itself?
Reason I ask is that I can close Outlook after its newreader is opened from
the application. Using Office 2K w/sp3.

Outlook has no news reader.
It uses Outlook Express for that, which you can open and close at will.

Dribble.

OE wasn't the question, was it dude?

Outlook keeps its own database for news. I don't need OE doing the same.
And don't veer off the subject with a reply about this..

If you don't know the answer to my orginal posted question, don't reply. Or
reply indicating "I don't know".

I've not veered off any subject.
You do not understand.
Repeating. Outlook is not a newsreader. It keeps no such "database for
news."
It uses Outlook Express as a newsreader. So do you. That's why you can close
Outlook and have Outlook Express still running.
You can open and close Outlook Express at will to read news. If you want to
open Outlook Express with only the newsreader portion active, add a
"newsonly" switch to a command line. For example:
"drive:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /newsonly
