newsreader vanished in Outlook 2003

I "upgraded" to Outlook 2003 and was encouraged to find that it has a
newsgroup reader. I tried it once and it seemed ok. Now it has vanished.
I go to place the icon in the "go" menu, and it's not there. Just before
this happened I found it on the "go" menu, clicked it, and the system 32
folder opened. How can I get it back?

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

Hi! "Michael W",
Do you confirmed the difference between Outlook and Outlook Express?
Outlook is a member of MS-Office family, and Outlook Express is a line of
Internet Explorer.
Actually, when you say Newsreader, it is Outlook Express,
even you triggered newsreader/newsgroup by Outlook!
Although,Outlook and OutlookExpress are different line of products,
when Outlook invokes Newsreader , it's Outlook Express's function.
(Surprised/Confused?)
Easiest way is just open OE, and set news group, and use it.
Good Luck!

Thanks to you both. I am now using OE and was before installing Outlook. I
thought the convenience of having it launch within Outlook would be nice.

Thanks. That did it, but I don't understand it. Don't I want to uncheck
"always check" and then say YES to the make default question?

Clear the check mark from the "always ask" and then check NO. This prevents
the prompt from appearing again.
