Newsreader error when downloading groups list

D

Dave Mitchell

My Outlook 2000 newsreader gets an "unknown error"
message when downloading the newsgroups from my ISP's news
server. It downloads about 4200 of them then bombs out and
cancels the download when the unknown error occurs. There
is plenty of hard drive space and about 60MB RAM available
on the system (WIndows 2000 Pro).

Prteviously I was receiving a message that there was not
enough memory to download the messages from a subscribed
newsgroup. I unsuscribed from that newsgroup, and set the
number of headers to be downloaded back to 300.

Any help would be appreciated.

Outlook 2000 doesn't have a newsreader, you must be using Outlook Express.
Unfortunately that's a different program and I don't know enough about
it to help you with it.
This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002 & 2003 from
the Office family for Intel PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting
in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.mail.mac for the Macintosh version of OE

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this
group try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the
source for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

My Outlook 2000, when in the Outlook Today View, you go to
View, News, GoTo, News and it opens something called
Outlook News Reader. Perhaps this is a relabeled Outlook
Express, then?

The Outlook 2002 I use at the office functions in the same
way.

Yes, that's just a poorly-named Outlook Express. :)
