I've tried the Search feature a few times to find a
particular sender or title, but get no results. Ditto
over in the Access newsgroups. ???????

Hi Larry

where are you searching ? via groups.google.com or within your newsreader?
(if within newsreader what program / version etc)
i use the search feature extensively via groups.google.com and find the
advanced search absolutely brilliant when i remember to place an astrisk at
the end of the group name
e.g.
microsoft.public.excel*

cheers

Try the following link:-

http://groups.google.com/advanced_g...d=23&as_maxm=4&as_maxy=2004&lr=&num=100&hl=en

though you may have to accommodate wordwrap.

This will allow you to search via the Google interface, limit it to excel, limit
it to the last 4 years, and increase the returns to 100. Google is the only way
to go when searching the newsgroups. You might also want to take a look at Ron
De Bruins free addin that takes all the pain out of searching right from within
Excel itself, but uses Google as the engine:-

Hi LarryP!

For searching newsgroups (not just Excel) you might take a look at:

Google Search 6.0
Ron de Bruin
http://www.rondebruin.nl/Google.htm

You'll find it a very user friendly search tool and that you can
change the groups you want to search to Access.

To all who suggested Google, I'll take a look, but I was
actually asking about the "Search" button that appears
right within the Microsoft Community Newsgroups
environment, right beside the "New Post" and "Post Reply"
buttons. It opens a dialog where you can enter search
criteria for the From line, Subject line, or text, then
run the search, but absolutely nothing happens.

LOL - The problem is that most regulars on here likely don't use it, and
wouldn't go near *anything* other than Google. Google blows the MS interface
away completely with both it's ease of use and history etc etc.

You're welcome. Thanks for letting me know that was the problem.
