I have outlook 2003 and I have deleted my news reader
option under go - commands. Is there any way I can
retrive this command. I uninstalled and reinstalled
office and did not reaquire it.

This option is a bit tricky. You must have Outlook Express set as your
default newsreader in Control Panel-> Internet Options-> tab Programs. If it
still doesn't show up you must reset your Toolbar by renaming outcmd.dat to
outcmd.old

For more details and other options to get the Go-> News option back see;

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

Thanks it worked.

This worked for me, too - but it's OE6 that's opening, not the Outlook 2003
newsreader. Is there any difference and, if so, how do I change so that
this is what opens?

Thanks.

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

OE has always been the news reader for Outlook. Outlook has never had news
reading capabilities, and likely never will.

It is the same newsreader; Outlook isn't a newsreader but uses Outlook
Express for this.

Yes, this much I understand, but, when I first installed Outlook 2003, I
thought the Newsreader actually said "Outlook 2003 Newsreader", now it says
"Outlook Newsreader" and when I check the version via Help/About, it says
OE6.

I was wondering if there was a more updated version of OE released with
Outlook 2003, or if OE6 is the current one, cosmetic/title differences
notwithstanding.

Thanks for the help.

Never have I seen a Title Bar that says "Outlook 2003 Newsreader"
My current Title Bar says "Microsoft Outlook Newsreader"
At any rate, you are seeing only a cosmetic difference, not a functional
one.

Thanks for this reply, and for the original help that got me running again.
It had been quite a while since OE had launched from within Outlook, I may
well have been mistaken about the title.

I am taking from your reply that there is no more recent release of OE with
Outlook 2003 than OE6, and that I am likely using the most recent version.
