News not responding

When I open Windows News from within Outlook 2003 I have started getting
the "not
responding" msg, nothing works [mouse, ctrl alt del etc]machine is
locked up,
this has just started happening since I finally activated two days ago.
After 20 or so seconds I regain control of the machine and News will
open, closing News and/reopening works as one would expect, nothing else is
amiss - just opening News first time.
One suggestion was having subscribed to many NGs can make it slow to
open , but there are only 3 NGs subscribed so we can discount this.
Running Vista Business on Domain with SBS2003 SP2, Gigabyte MoBo /AMD Dual
Core 4200, 7600GT graphics card and 1GB RAM, any help appreciated.

FWIW I have posted in both the Windows Mail and Outlook NGs but no one
there can offer a solution, has anyone here seen this behaviour and can
offer a solution

If I understood your post right, the problem might be not in amount of
newsgroups you have but rather with amount of messages within the
newsgroups. If a newsgroup contains several dozens of thousands of messages,
it could take any PC a bit to load it all.

Windows Mail is crap for newsgroups, it doesn't take much
to make it choke.

You can try Windows Live Mail. It's a little better for newsgroups
but not much. http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

Your best bet is to use Thunderbird, it's free and far superior to
anything Microsoft offers, at least for newsgroup handling.
