I seem not to be able to subscribe to any news groups except Microsoft.
Is there a work around for this problem?

Set up a second news server account. Your internet provider may
offer you a news server to use, if they have one. Or, you could
tell us who your internet provider is and see if anyone here already
knows where to find the instructions for the setup.

Or, you could pay for access to a premium newsgroup server.

See if your ISP has a news server.
