I have looked at al of the symbols in Bookshelf Symbol 7 font (Bssym7.ttf)
and do not understand why any of these symbols are unacceptable to
Microsoft. Why should I remove this font?

Also, aren't critical updates for the purpose of fixing bugs and security
issues? How does this qualify as a critical update? Does this font cause
such problems with the Windows Operating system?

Edwin;
Hopefully this several month old update is not the newest one you
have, it is really quite old in a Critical Update point of view.

AFAIK, there are no issues if this is not installed.
It is exactly as it appears, changes of some font characters.
Perhaps a defensive step as a result of some seemingly unrelated
lawsuit from an unrelated product.

This link has descriptions of the various fixes:

I believe this is the font that included a swastika which of course meant
that a lot of folks got all hot and bothered. It's not a computer issue at
all but a social issue.
