Newby question - database asp

This is always a problem web designers create a web in frontpage with an
access database, hand it over to the client and the first thing the client
askes is "how do I backup the database"
I do it in frontpage but it is not without its perils.I created another
local web with just the database folder and then I open the remote site and
right click the database on the remote site and publish it to the local new
we. There are some things that can go wrong . first you havr to make sure
the publish from the remote to local radio button at the bottom right of the
frontpage screen is selected or the local will overwrite the remote instead
of the other way round. A simple stand alone download program from the
remote to the local where all the download criteria (username and password
and file destinations) can be set by the web designer before you give it to
the client would be usefull I have come accross such programs for SQL
databases but not access.

I have almost got it working - will post a step by step once it's done to the
FP & access forums

To download (backup) a DB from a FP SE Web site
- just open the online site in FP, select the mdb file and from the menu use File Export and select a location on your PC

Hi Stefan

Thats what I'm trying to avoid. I'm creating a small DLL that will do the
job.

I want users to simply click on an access form button to download new on
line form details. The data will then be allocated to various tables via an
apend after running through validation (people tend to type mistakes into on
line forms).

What I don't want to do is either have to give out our user name and
password to users or (even worse) for me to have to manually open FP and
backup to local disk (bit 1980's that way).

I have googled this and it's seems the Access -> FP is no problem but FP ->
Access is not built in. As I'm the IT dept here I guess it's my job to get
the company software to do what we want. I have already set this up simply
using mysql so could use that but I'm interested in this now - so will sort
it soon (after holidays).

I'm sure life was much simpler when I was aboy with a typewritter :)

You can open an instance of FP (then file export) from within Access in VBA
- the FP credentials would be in the Access VBA
See http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa208502(office.11).aspx
