yeppers, dis is the place.

Two most common errors made by noobs:

1) Create a FrontPage Web first...not loose pages.
2) Import images you want to use into FP first before placing them into your
layout.
3) Don't use FP as an image editor.
4) Optimize and resize images prior to Importing.
5) If your host server has FP extensions installed and working...DONT use
FTP to Publish.

ah...thats more than two isn't it

:)

Jeffrey,
Go for it. That is, post your queries here.

I started a year ago as a novice in all aspects of making web pages and I
have learnt a lot from the simplistic to now fairly complex stuff. I still
make stupid mistakes, but here is the place to learn.

Another reference if you want to learn about the languages used on the web
(and after a while it is useful) is

Steve,
Your reply makes me wonder.

We (learners like me and experts like you) could keep throwing hints like
this at newbies, and mostly they would all be good.

But, how about compiling a list of "Common Hints and Traps". Rob's and yours
could be a starting point. It could be posted here and updated as fellow NG
users think of something.

Then, when we get a newbie question, the first person to see it posts it as
a "Welcome"

Don't try to create the "perfect" web first time out.
Don't use every feature/component/option available in FP to create the
perfect web.
Avoid Draw/Autoshapes/etc.
Don't use spaces in file/folder names...or capitalization and sick-eagle
[sic] characters :)

Good idea, we should compile a list and post it every sunday night like Tina
posts the useful links msg.

Use the drop down on the left of the format toolbar to make headers and
lists instead of hitting the font bold, increasing the font size or typing
1 list, etc.

Rob,

When you say "we", whom do you suggest?

Should an MVP moderate this?

I have kept all suggestions so far, so I could amalgamate them.

If I were do so, I could post on Sunday at about 1700 AEST. I think US West
Coast is 17 hours behind and East Coast 14 hours behind, but I could be
wrong. So that would be about 3 am Sunday East Coast time. Or if I left it
another day, it would be 3 am Monday.

After this week, no more may come through anyway.

It's an open house...anyone can do it...we dun' need no MVP :)

We can work on it together if you want. I have one minor problem though. I
only have 171 brain cells left, so I forget to do stuff sometimes...but

Thanks, Rob and Kathleen

I'll post this week's list (including Kathleen's reference) at 1700 Monday
AEST, which I think is midnight Sunday US West Coast.

Yeah, I don't have that many brain cells left either. I retired from system
analysis/programming for the (Australian) Government a bit over 2 years ago
before they began to notice too much :))

Still I might have enough left to do some cut and paste operations.

I gotta go to LaLaLand over the w/e though.
