Hi,

I am trying to install xp home and I am getting stuck on the hard drive set
up (can't find hard drive). Using giga-byte motherboard but cannot figure
out what drivers I need! SATA VIA RAID it's making me crazy. Support tells
me to go to website and d/l but they cannot tell me what it is to d/l!

Any help would be great.

Sandy,

Check the mobo instructions very carefully! I used a RAID mobo (MSI) that
advised that the installation MUST be done with HDD plugged into one of the
standard IDE connectors . . . after completion it worked fine when HDD was
connected to the RAID controller. So this "may" be your problem . . .
different vendors may do things differently.

Also, SATA is not natively supported in XP, as it didn't exist when XP was
released. Thus, you likely need to DL and install SATA drivers as
"additional drivers" during the XP install process.

You should have got the drivers on a floppy disk with the motherboard. If
not just download the SATA drivers from
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Motherboard/Support/Driver/Driver_List.htm, but
remember nothings going to be detected if your SATA controller is switched
off in the BIOS. Once you've got them on a floppy you'll need to press F6 at
the start of Windows setup to have the drivers read off the floppy disk.
