I just installed WD. I had used MSAS for a year or so. I notice a couple of
differences. When MSAS ran a scheduled scan, it opened a window to show it
was scanning. I would like the same in WD. Can I? When MSAS scanned, it took
about 20 minutes. WD requires about an hour to run a full scan and about 2
minutes for a quick scan. What is the recommended strategy for full and
quick scans? What about custom scans? TIA

The recommended strategy is quickscans, with a full scan if anything is
found. Windows Defender searchs within archive files which adds to the time
and the listed number of items scanned. You can turn searching within
archives off.

I don't know of a way to get the behavior you want during the scan. If you
open the UI, the scan progress will show--there's a few seconds lag
sometimes, but it should work.

Custom scans do a quickscan first.
