Newbie questions about matched pairs of processors

Arthur Rhodes

I have some basic questions about matched pairs of Intel processors.

1. Is it enough that the stepping numbers (sSpec numbers) are
the same, or do you need something more?

2. Can you tell just by looking at two chips if they are a matched
pair?

3. I always hear about matched pairs of Xeon and Pentium III's, but
not so much about other chips. Does anyone care about matched pairs of
Celeron 1.4 Ghz chips? Are there dual processor motherboards that take
those chips?

Thanks

generally, sspecs tell all

yup

no

no (so you probably should have asked this one first ;-)
