newbie post shorted pc (winxp)? wont boot

hi

my pc (winXP) was ok until i started to move it and now it wont boot - it beeps when turned on

i think ive shorted the motherboard ? by removing the mouse whilst plugged in - is this possible? either that or i was trying to connect some external speakers to an amp. doh - i know

what is the recommended way forward?

any help appreciated
