Newbie needs Help w/Help Files

Is there a reason that I cannot click on a help topic and receive help. It
keeps telling me
"Action canceled
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page
might be temporarily unavailable."
Every other program works fine so I know it's not my connection. I am
trying to learn Access and the Help would be nice versus having to go to
Microsofts site (little slower to find specifics). Any help would be
appreciated. Thank you.

JMO - but for someone new to Access, the MS help files aren't all that
"helpful".
They're fine if you are familiar with Access and are looking for info on
specific
things like funtions, procedures, syntax, etc., but if you're trying to learn
Access from the ground up, not so much. Here is a list of resources you
may find much more helpful than the MS "help" files.

The first thing you should probably focus on is normalization and proper
table design/structure.

I would also recommend buying a book. I believe Jeff Conrad has a list
of good Access books at his site. Before you buy one, I would suggest
going to the local book store and browsing a few of the titles you
are interested in to see which one is written in a style that you like.
Everyone's different when it comes to books. One that is perfect for
one person might be useless for another person.

Anytime you click on a help topic that is not locally stored on your hard
drive, it takes you to the help file on the internet at the Microsoft site.
It will only work with IE. Make sure you have IE and that it is working.

It seems that when I click on any 'dark blue' question mark next to a help
topic, it's not successful. Anything else takes me through. I prefer the
'quick' help topics where it shows me keystrokes, for example, versus having
to go through an entire class online or read through pages to get my answer.
I just can't figure out why half of the help topics work and the other half
don't. Have any other ideas?

You have the Help system configured to look on-line.
You can change that.
When you click on the Help button, at the bottom of the list,
you will see "Online Content Settings".

That is where you can choose when and if the Help system will go online,
as opposed to using your local Help files.

I somewhat agree with the prior respondents about the uselessness of Help,
but not really. The help system is where I learned a lot, although the
system
is not as good as it used to be.

It might be worthwhile to post an ad on Craigslist to pay someone a few
bucks to come in for an hour or so and show you how to use the templates
that Microsoft has supplied.
