Newbie Needs Help Recoding

M

Mike

Hi Everyone.

I'm new to this newsgroup, and I'm hoping to get some assistance.

I bought an HP Pavillion zd8000 that came with Windows XP, Media
Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. It came with a CD/DVD
recorder/player. It also came with an external HP Dual TV Tuner,
Digital Video Recorder. I hooked everything up, but haven't tried to
watch TV or record TV. That doesn't interest me just yet.

Instead, I tried to record a video that I played on Line 1 of my TV's
built in VCR. I also tried to record a DVD that played on Line 2 of my
TV. I'm getting the impression that the only thing that Media Center
Edition is going to record is a TV signal. Is that correct, or is
there some other way I can record a VCR/DVD signal?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

You won't be able to 'capture' a DVD signal as you would a tv signal because
the DVD is encrypted. If you want to put the DVD on the hard drive, you
will use your DVD player, and then third party software such as DVDShrink or
DVD Decrypter, both of which are free and you can find by googling.
