transfering VCR to DVD

How do I transfer VCR tapes to DVD or just my hard drive?

I tried connecting my VCR directly to my tv tuner card but all I get i
bad video and very little sound. I have Nero 7 if that means anything

1st install latest drivers for the tv card(forget the software that came
with it),
download WM encoder 9 series + the utilitys + codec installation package.With
the encoder,select capture audio/video Start encoding when you want,the
WMCAP utility lets you view the content before encoding,you can even use
xp movie maker,i never used,but it can work too.Once the encoder has captured
to a new folder you create,run it thru the encoder again if you wish,then
send
finished data to dvd.Also,sometimes the encoder + WMCAP need to be configured
to capture...
