New XP user

Just got a PC with XP Home preloaded. In the middle of an
application I get a "Windows is shutting down" message,
and of course, the unit powers down. Any suggestions ?

Go into your Control Panel - Power Options,

Check the various tab settings for Hard drive and Monitor.

Usually set them to Never shut down.

Under the APM tab also click to - Enable Advanced Power Management Support.
