Hi Jane,

The security tab is only available if you:

a) are using NTFS for the file system and
b) disable "use simple file sharing (recommended)" on the view tab of folder
options (click tools/folder options from Windows Explorer).

Hi,
I have just installed xp. (pro)
This post is regading setting up security settings.
I went to explore and right clicked on a folder, then properties.
I expected to see a tab called Security but it wasnt there, just
3 others. (general, Web Sharing, & Sharing).
Is there something else I am supposed to do to get this tab to come
up with all its options?

thanks

Hi Rick,
Thanks, I will shut down win98 and fire up XP and try
what you said.
Also, what is the easiest way I can get to the area to set up
an internet connection. (dial up).
In win98 I just clicked on My computer and dial-up was accessable
from there, but it doesnt seem to be that way in xp.

thanks

regards Jane

It worked just fine Rick, thanks again.
Dont suppose you are in the mood to answer another
question?
My drive is partitioned to C, D, & E.
XP got put on my newly formatted Ddrive, and as such, all of
my custom icons (which were pathed to a fodler in Edrive) needed
to have their properties changed to path them to what is now
the Ddrive for win98.... that was simple and I have rectified it.
But, I have two other issues. I have 4Dos and the Resource Tools
on that same Edrive in win98 (now Ddrive) and the Autoexec.bat
and Config.sys still see them as being pathed to Edrive.
I edited Autoexec.bat using notepad, then I used 'Run, msconfig' to
edit the Config file to reflect the new drive-letter change.
I have never edited this file and am wondering if you can confirm
that I have done the right thing.
I dont want to re-boot until I feel confident about it just in case
win98 doesnt fire up, it is still the only one with an internet connection
and I wouldnt be able to get back here if there was
a problem.
Also, during boot for win98, I get a message saying "cannot find
command.com or file is corrupt", this is why I have 'Edited' the
above mentioned files.

thanks for replies

regards Jane

Hi Jane,

What WinXP sees the drive letter as and what the Win98 sees it as will be
two different things. Win98 should still see the drive letters as it always
has. You should not change any paths. Running msconfig in WinXP will not
load the files used to load the Win98 system. As to the command.com problem,
that error indicates a problem with the mbr and usually requires reloading
Win98.
