I just did the XP update for April 05.

Then I entered a faulty internet address in my browser,
(not MSIE) and was given a page headed:

"xxxx
Here are some related web sites for: xxxx "

In fact they were UNrelated (a bunch of needlework
and sewing links for pete's sake)

What is this, a new Microsoft intrusion?

How do I shut it off?

(If my address is bad, say so, don't try to sell me something.)

There's nothing wrong. Your browser is working as expected. If for
instance you meant to type "microsoft.com" and typed "micosoft.com"
instead, then that site (micosoft) would open if it exists.

Did you expect your browser to correct spelling mistakes you make when
typing in an URL? Not possible since URLs tend to be unusual names and
not the things you'd find in a dictionary.

Maybe if you gave the "exact" url you typed in others could check and then
advise on THEIR observances.

http://www.kcsm.com or http://kcsm.com

Either elicits a list of needle-work links. In those links
I see hints of "google syndication" or "oingo.com"

( The correct address is .org not .com -- kcsm is the
College of San Mateo tv station, gone digital )

Where's it coming from? (There was a time when I was
getting referred to MSN, but I stopped that somehow.)

-- just tell me it's a bad address -- don't feed me ads --

It's not a bad address. It's a valid address for some company now.
Perhaps before you'd get an error and your browser would redirect to MSN.
Come on, this really can't be that difficult to understand, can it?
www.kcsm.org is not the same address as www.kcsm.com, so why would you
expect them to show the same site?

Ok, Ron and Michael. Thanks for the enlightenment.

It confused me by being the strangest home page I've ever encountered:

kcsm.com
Here are some related websites for: kcsm.com __________ [search]

quiltmaker.primediamags.com/

etcetera weird !

It seems to be keying the page content based on the actual URL you
used to get there.

http://209.123.16.2 gives an entirely different page content from what
you get with http://www.kcsm.com

Yes, very weird site. Try the search. It's "oingo"
I wonder how many URL's go there. What's unique about "kcsm"?
I smell a rat.

There are Internet URL Brokers who make money buy selling URL's (Just like
real estate brokers sell houses and comercial buildings).
When you get to an address that's in the process of being sold, sometimes
the DNS servers don't have the most recent changes in them and you get
redirected to the Broker's choice of page.
I have a feeling this is what you're experiencing.
Time will heal this problem as this site gets the collective red-tape
resolved.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have an urge to take up quilting now.
