Fred

On my last Windows XP update (8/13) I down loaded a file
that changed the method of entering XP. After XP has
loaded, I now open to a blue screen that has my name on
the right, number of unopened e-mail messages and the
ability to change the user account log-on. Being quite
stupid and reading but not completely knowing the extent
of some of the XP updates, I would love to find out which
update number it is so I can delete it and get back to my
original method of entering XP.
Anyone know the Windows XP file number so I can get
rid of the file?

Thanks

Don't try to undo the update for this purpose. Depending on what you
want do one of these:

If you want a Windows 2000 style dialog where you enter a username and
password to logon, go to Control Panel - User accounts and take 'Change
the way users log on'. There Cancel anything about changing Offline
files, and uncheck 'Use the Welcome screen'

If you want to log you on automatically, without offering a choice of
user, go to Start - Run and run
control userpasswords2
There uncheck 'Users must give a username, , ,' and Apply - then tell it
the user and password to be assumed
