new xp activation needed after vista rc1 installation

N

Norbert Wenkel

After I installed vista rc1 on a seperate HD without having the XP
harddisk connected (same hardware) it happens to me two times that xp
has to be reactivated again (after reconnecting of the xp HD) because
hardware changes have been noticed.
Hmmm... any comments on that.
Could that because of irq changes during vista rci installation which
are stored somewhere in the bios (DMI) area.

Any hints and tips are wellcome

Actually, that has nothing to do with Vista, that is an XP thing, Mine did
that a couple times. All you can do is either re-submit the activation, or
call Microsoft and they will give you the required activation code. That
happens with major hardware changes in the market bought releases of Windows
XP. It was a pain in the rear for me. I have had to call Microsoft no less
than a dozen times, with a changed Mainboard, a couple hard drive swaps, and
such..
