Is it possilbe to have excel open in a new window using code? I know
can change the windows in taskbar default. I want the book to open i
a new instance when the .xls is clicked on from explorer?

I don't think so.

If you double click on the file in explorer, it'll start opening in however you
have xl set (via that tools|options|General|ignore other applications setting).

Can you just check that "ignore other applications" and walk away happy???
