NEW VIRUS ATTACKING WINDOWS/EXPLORER

Somehow, in the past 72 hours, I have contracted an
unidentified virus (at least I think it is a virus) that
prevents me from contacting Microsoft directly. For
example, when I attempted to have Microsoft check my
computer for updates, my computer froze. When I tried to
contact Microsoft through "entitled assistance", all I
got was a "Page not displayed" announcement.

Incidentally, this same virus has prevented me from
accessing my email on Yahoo!.

Has anyone else run across this? If so, what have they
done? Doing a System Restore was useless. Doing a
complete system scan with Norton (which is up to date)
also was useless.

Ideas please?

Scan your computer with another virus scanner?

What makes you think this is a virus? You said yourself your scanner thinks
the machine is clean and i've seen no evidence of a virus infection in the
list of symptoms.

Have you also checked for spyware using something like ad-aware or Spybot
Search & Destroy?
