New Video Card

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 PC running Windows XP Home Ed, 2.2ghz
Celereon, 512MB Ram. I tried installing a Diamond Stealth S80 128MB PCI
Video Card and I am running into a problem. When I just put the card in
by itself it works but when I try to install the drivers for it and the
installation is complete, I reboot windows and right when you get to the
logon screen, it switches to the built in video card. any suggestions?

Most likely you will need to go into the BIOS of the Dell and disable the
onboard video. Or and also, you may need to change a jumper on the
motherboard to disable onboard video. Best thing for you to do is to consult
your manual and read about adding a video card.

Using the onboard video, go into display properties and set
the PCI card as the primary display device.

You might also see if your bios allows disabling the onboard
video when there is a pci video card installed. If there is
no obvious setting, see if there is a setting to change the
amount of system memory allocated to the onboard video and
if so, set it to the lowest value (hopefully zero) MB.

I checked the bios, for the video setting, it only has an Auto or
Onboard setting. It is already on Auto. For the memory size it has 1MB
or 8MB and it is already on 1MB. I don't see any jumpers anywhere.

I went to Dell and found the manual for a Dimension 2400. This is what they
have under the bios setup.

Obviously yours may be different if you don't find it. I would set the video
controller for PCI rather than AGP if it's available since you're going with
a non-AGP card.

The following table shows Integrated Devices (Legacy Select Options) option
information.

Option
Function

Sound
Turns the integrated sound off and on. The default is On.

Network Interface Controller
Turns the network interface controller off and on. The default is On.

Mouse Port

Serial Port 1
Sets serial port options and turns the port off and on. The default is
Auto.

Parallel Port
Displays parallel port settings when <Enter> is pressed. The default
mode is PS/2 and the I/O address default is 378h.

Diskette Interface

Primary Video Controller

Thanks for your help but I figured it out. I had to go into The Control
Panel, System, Device Manager and disable the Intel Graphics Driver than
install the driver to the new video card. It worked like a charm.
