New Users with Invalid Shortcuts

Hello,

I have been reading through different posts looking for some information. I
have learned a few things, but nothing concerning my problem.

I am the Admin of my home computer Running XP Pro. It is the second Admin
(initial dormant). I have tried creating a new account for general use, but
my desktop and start menu shortcuts are not available under the new account.
I have tried creating both Admin and Limited. Neither one has had valid
shortcuts.

When I go to All Users under the new account (currently another Admin), all
of the shortcuts are invalid. I did a copy/paste of all my start menu program
shortcuts, while under my working Admin account, to the new Admin account in
Docs and Settings, but they are invalid when I log in under the new Admin
account.

Is this an Ownership problem? Does it have anything to do with Security
Rights? I have given the new account Admin rights and even added it to the C:
drive with all rights checked. Could it be a Services issue? I have modified
some of what starts automatically, but nothing I 'think' causes my current
problem.

I have added the new account through the Control Panel and through Manage
(right click My Computer), but neither one will create an account with valid
shortcuts. I really don't want to create them all manually.

Any ideas?

Sign on with the new account that has admin rights.

Drill down through "Documents and Settings" to the original Admin account to
one of the shortcuts you want to use.

Double click the shortcut and if the shorcut works, create a shorcut to the
shorcut while signed on with the new admin account.

I have found this works with computers attached to a domain and suspect it
will work for you.

Thank you for the reply, Jon.

I have looked under All Users and my main Admin account for valid shortcuts.
None of them are valid. Other than the one I created when I loaded XP Pro, I
have not found another Admin account. There is the default one, but I do not
know how to access this one.

I have had this trouble in the past and ended up creating shortcuts from
Explorer. I am not wanting to go through this again.

There has to be something wrong with settings or services (or some other
thing I may have done) for this to occur, but I am not familiar enough with
XP Pro to know what I have changed to bring about this issue.

Any other ideas?

"There is the default one, but I do not
know how to access this one."

The default "admin" is usually "administrator" and will not have a password
unless you created one. Sign on as the administrator to the computer. Go to
control panel from the start menu and slecet "User Accounts" icon (may need
to switch to classic view" Bring up the properties for your day to day
account you wish to use the shortcuts. Change the "Other" to
"Administrator". Sign back on with the day to day account and try the
shortcuts again.
