Invalid shortcuts on limited users' start menu and desktop

Hi all,

I have created all of the shortcuts on the start menu and desktop on my
windows xp installation on the "All Users" folder. However, while this
works fine for Administrator type users, limited accounts and the guest
account either don't have the shortcut or when I click on it I am told
it is not a valid shortcut.

Can anyone let me know why this is - surely the point of the "All
Users" is to store common settings etc.

Thanks,

John

John,

Check the Permissions set for the "All Users" folder. Make sure that the "Everyone" group has these permissions:

.. Read & Execute
.. List Folder Contents
.. Read

Ta Ramesh, that worked. I also needed to make that change for all of
the desktop shortcuts and and individual items in the start menu folder
(with the exceptionof the "List Folder Contents" option).

I think the problem arose due to the fact I copied an administrative
user's start menu and desktop into the all users'.

thanks again,

john
