New Update, Old Definitions

C

Chuck

Running MSAS version 1.0.615 with definiton 5757 on both XP
Home and Pro. I have all autoupdater settings checked.
After an automatic update the program will delcare that "
Your spyware definitions have been updated on...lists date
and time to version xxxx. The problem is that the date is
new but the definitions are the previous old version. If I
click on the Spyware definitions tab, the program goes
online and downloads the newest version of the definitions
and correctly lists it. But the next time it updates, and
new definitons are available, the same thing happens again.
Bottom line...the program is declaring that my definitions
have been updated, but is keeping the old definitions and
not replacing them with the updated version. I can do the
manual update, but would prefer the automatic feature. I am
running Microsofts firewall and have included about 5
entries pertaining to the antispyware program into the
exceptions. Also running AVG antivirus. Computer is on
dsl...always connected to internet and is hooked to a
linksys router with NAT enabled. Other than this issue I
have had no other problems with this program. I know it is
still a beta, but wonder if I am doing something wrong or
have forgotten to reconfigure a setting or two. Any
response would be appreciated.

Try uninstalling the app using Start > Settings > Control
Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Now delete the entire
MSAS folder from c:\program files. Also delete the
gccollection.dll and gcuncompress.dll from
c:\windows\system32 (XP only, will have to search for
them on other versions of Windows). Now reboot the
system and reinstall the app.

I have tried what you have suggested plus using regedit to
eliminate folders in the registry under Giant and/or
Microsoft Antispyware. I still get the same results.

It shows the new date and new definition number. But it
would. When you "check for update" you are initiating a
manual update. My problem arises from the autoupdater.
