New to Windows Mail - stupid gmail question

A

Angelica Valkyrie

Hello, this is probably a very silly question, but I finished connecting my
windows mail to my gmail account and received a bunch of older emails from
gmail. Here's my stupid question: if I delete emails in windows mail, are
they also deleted from my gmail account?

It depends on which protocol you're using..
If you are using POP3, and leave the messages on the server after
downloading, then no.
If you are using POP3, and delete the messages on the server after
downloading, then they won't be there to delete.
If you are using IMAP, then they should be deleted on the server when you
delete them in WM.

Angelica,
Not a silly question at all. You have the option of either deleting the
emails from your windows mail or leaving them out on the gmail server. To
get to this option go to tools in windows mail, accounts, click on your gmail
account, properties, advanced tab and at the bottom there's a check box to
leave on server.
The other important thing is when you set up your windows mail account, you
have the option of using POP3 or IMAP. POP3 pulls your emails down from the
server and will be deleted from your email account but if you use IMAP it
leaves them out on the server. Hope that helps...
