I check for updated software daily. If there are no updates
it only takes a few seconds to find that out, if there is an
update it is downloaded and that takes a few minutes. But
it is time well spent since you are less likely to spent
time disinfecting later.
My routine is after booting, open virus scan and check for
updates, then check for updates on Ad-Aware and SpyBot.
When I run Ad-Aware or SpyBot and get a get on something, I
don't just delete it, I make a note of what it was and add
it manually to the IE security (restricted zone) and privacy
(cookie) sites lists.

| This brings up a good point, though. People working to fix
viruses and
| malware need to make sure their tools are constantly
updated. My
| practice is that once a week I check for/download all
updated tools I
| use to get rid of malware/viruses and make a new cd-r.
