They update and release a new version of STINGER as needed
and that could mean several times a week. But they download
site is always the same. Check it often.

The reason for the update was for a new variant of Netsky.
For the same reason, McAfee released DAT v4399 yesterday.

McAfee/AVERT Stinger still only targets ~45 infectors.

This brings up a good point, though. People working to fix viruses and
malware need to make sure their tools are constantly updated. My
practice is that once a week I check for/download all updated tools I
use to get rid of malware/viruses and make a new cd-r.

When it comes to Trend Sysclean. I see the Pattern Files are update almost
every other day and the Syclean.com utility updated periodically. Therefore
I think it is contraindicated to to burn to a CDR. Maybe copy to a USB Flash
drive since in is read and Write but CDR, no.

Personally, I keep Command Line Scanners and removal tools on a ZIP 250MB
disk. This way I can update by just writing over the files and deleting what
is no longer needed.

I check for updated software daily. If there are no updates
it only takes a few seconds to find that out, if there is an
update it is downloaded and that takes a few minutes. But
it is time well spent since you are less likely to spent
time disinfecting later.
My routine is after booting, open virus scan and check for
updates, then check for updates on Ad-Aware and SpyBot.

When I run Ad-Aware or SpyBot and get a get on something, I
don't just delete it, I make a note of what it was and add
it manually to the IE security (restricted zone) and privacy
(cookie) sites lists.

I think "contraindicated" is a bit strong. I prefer CD-R's. They are
cheap and there is no chance they can pick up anything from an infected
computer. It's a matter of preference. As for updating tools, my first
pass with all tools is always in Safe Mode and then I install a
full-featured av/firewall before connecting to the Internet. Then
update everything and scan again. But whatever works for you. You say
"tomato", etc.

I can't argue with what you said.
