New Site & New DC

Hello:

Can anyone point me to a step-by-step document on adding a new site
and its first DC? I currently have three sites and want to add a
fourth.

This site will have only a single DC. Connections between the sites
are from server to server using PPTP tunnels and RRAS Routing. (I
know, I know...this will be changing in the next six months but right
now it is working for the other sites.) My plan is this:

- At site 4, establish a VPN connection (using RRAS) to the FSMO
holder (at Site1).
- Point to Site1 for DNS.
- Run DCPROMO on new server at site 4. This should add the new server
to Site1 (dssite).
- Create the new links and subnets in dssite.
- Move new server to site 4 in dssite.
- watch replication do its magic.

What am I missing? Again, any step-by-step suggestions?

thanks

You will want to configure the site, links, transports,
and subnet info prior to running the DCPROMO. These all
can be done in Sites and Services.

Be sure that the 4th server can resolve the FSMO role
holder prior to running DCPROMO.

If you configure the subn4et information, the server will
automatically be moved into site 4 unless you are talking
about an OU in Users and Computers. If so this would be
done manually.

So as for step by step:

1 - Create site name and select ANY existing site link.
2 - Create a site link between site 4 and your best repl
option. (Inter site transports - IP)
3 - Delete the site you created in #1
4 - recreate the site you added in #1 and select the link
you set in #2
5 - Configure your Subnet
6 - Run DCPROMO after you are sure you can resolve DC#1
from DC#4

Thanks, Chris. That did the trick. Things seems to replicating
properly. I have a slight complication but will post it separately.
