New Reader Icon Missing

Randy Graves

Thank you for your help. I recently installed Office 2003
w/Outlook on Windows XP Pro. All updates and patches have
been applied to XP and Office.

My problem is that the News Reader Icon was there once
and is now missing. Following the instructions in Help I
added the News Reader Icon to the Go menu. News worked,
but now the Icon is missing from Go and it is also
missing from the list of available icons to add to the Go
menu.

I have re-installed Outlook. Re-Installed Office 2003,
created a new XP User Profile. Under the new profile I
had the same thinig happen. ie. I was able to add the
News Icon once and use it, but now it is missing from
both the Go menu and Customization Add options.

Thank you for your help.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

Russ,

Thank You! I sincerely appreciate your response and
knowledge.

Yes, setting Internet Explorer to use Outlook Express as
the Default News Reader Application and un-checking the
box, correct my problem.

Again Thank You! Your help is sincerely appreciated.
