New PSU making faint buzzing sound when off.

I recently installed this PSU...
http://www.fsp-group.com.tw/english/1_product/2_detail.asp?mainid=1&fid=53&proid=87

...in one of my computers. I just noticed that there is a very faint
buzzing noise when the computer is OFF and the PSU power switch is ON.
It is nearly inaudible - can only be heard with ear within several
inches of PSU. Is this bad or normal? (I'm thinking bad since I don't
hear this sound from any other PSU I own.)

It's not ideal but not necessarily a problem either, most
likely you have some coil windings buzzing which randomly
effect quite a few PSU. If it's loud enough to annoy you,
then it is bad. If not, your call as to whether it's worth
the bother to have it exchanged for another of same model or
another model (since any with similar parts and APFC could
have same potential to do it).

If theres no on/off switch on the back of the psu its usually a cheap piece
of junk. U can also tell by its physical weight. Heavy is good.

It will prolly be alright for a while but i'd plan on getting a descent psu.
You get what u pay for.

What a ridiculous statement. There are MANY MANY good psu
without a switch on the back. As for decent, odds are fair
to good that the PSU he mentioned will still be running
after the average name-brand has failed.

Well, the sound has gone away, at least for now. And the buzzing noise
was so soft I could barely hear it - even in a silent room with my ear
right next to the PSU. I think I'll keep this PSU. Thanks for the help!

Posters that use "chatroom" abbreviations (ur, for example) in Usenet
newsgroups shouldn't be calling others morons. And, try using capital
letters once in a while.

Hey, give the guy a break. It's hard to make uppercase letters with
just one's thumbs - especially if they're non-opposeable.

Not really a problem, but it may drive younger people batty. Adults
can't as readily hear the very high pitched noises that some PSUs make.

MTBF of 100K hours at 25C is pretty good. (if that actually means
anything)

Just thought I'd point out that I made reference to the existence of an
on/off switch in my post when I wrote "...the PSU power switch...".
