New PS, now no Restart?

My 200 W PS with 20-pin motherboard connection died, windstorm, tree
knocked out powerlines, some goof had left computer running, surge
protectors (2 in series) did ...nothing.
AMD Duron, K7AMA mb.

OK, so I bought a new 300 watt PS, 24-pin out w/ 20-pin adapter. In the
process of eliminating other possibilities, I had unplugged the power
and restart switches at the bottom of the motherboard. I think I got
the plugs all back on the right pins, power on upper right pins, reset
upper left pins, lights on the lower pins. Computer works fine
butt....there is no Standby option when you go to turn off, and reset
doesn't work. To restart, I need to turn off the power at the power
bar, which causes an audible click in the computer power switch. Then
power up in the normal way. Normal off, no problem.

Is this reset problem fixable, or is it due to the mismatched PS?

Check the orientation of the reset and power wires on the motherboard. If
you have the board manual, it will show you the proper pin orientation. If
not, and you know the board make/model, go to the manufacturer website and
download the manual.

If nothing else, reverse the reset connectors- it won't damage the board, it
will either work, or not.
