New PowerPoint indexer

Joseph M. Newcomer

I've put up a new version of my PowerPoint indexer. This is a significant improvement in
that it no longer uses a VBA script but reads the PowerPoint presentation directly. It
also implements a new indexing feature: if you put certain keywords in the speaker notes
field, they will be used as index terms. In addition, you can now add these keywords
directly from the Indexer program with a few mouse clicks. There is new documentation on
my MVP Tips site for this:

In addition, there is a whole new section in the "Inside the PowerPoint Indexer" that
explains how I interfaced an MFC application to the PowerPoint automation interface and
shows how to parse certain aspects of the PowerPoint file, and how to modify the
PowerPoint file.

As usual, this comes with the complete source code so you can study it.

Joseph,

I've met you quite a few times at the MVP Summits in Seattle/Redmond.
You were usually very quiet but always very enlightening with your
perspective.

So, this new update is either a very scary Halloween idea or you are
now just a very scary person for your content.

This stuff looks great, wish I understood more about the end benefits
of it. Care to share more on that, but not in C++ (g). Sorry you don't
like VBA, we all know it is going to go away but hope we all don't
have to learn C++. Heck, I would be lucky if my programming grade
average was even D+.

Nice to hear from you. See you in Seattle/Redmond early next year. I
don't really think it is Halloween scary any more. But it is scary.

Brian Reilly, MVP
