New PC & Win XP Home

Old Codger \(TX\)

I cross-posted to two other XP sites for as much feedback as possible.
Before I get flamed, I don't make a habit of cross-posting.
---
My new pcs will be delivered later this week with Win XP Home Edition
installed. We are retired but do run a network at home as my wife has a
small business as a hobby - I got volunteered to do her books. I've used
Win98 SE since its inception and all previous versions of Windows prior to
that, having started with MS-DOS in 1986. Questions: Are any reference
books recommended? In addition to the great newsgroups and MVP support,
what sites are suggested for tweaks and tips for XP?

Thanks in advance for serious recommendations.

Hi,
"Windows XP inside out" from Aacademic Services is the book you are looking
for.
I suggest you search your newsserver for NG´s with "windows", select them
all and just browse through them. Enjoy your new PC.

Best regards,

Ben

Its probably a bit too obvious, and if so I apologise, but you can search a
lot of support websites all at once with Google, which I'm sure isn't news
to you, but what might be news is that you can also search these newsgroups
and also several others from google too - http://groups.google.com

I've often found the help I need by just typing error messages into the
search box there.

Thanks to those that replied with the great info. As a result, I visited
the MVP sites, noted the various recommendations from them and in the NGs,
and then ordered the following books:

Windows XP Inside Out ISBN 0-7356-1382-6
Windows XP in a Nutshell ISBN 0-596-00249-1

These should work well for me, plus these excellent NGS.

Thanks again!
