New PC will not shutdown sometimes

I have bought 5 new pc's for my school and 3 of the 5
evesham pc's will not shut down now after a few days of
running. I have downloaded all of the ms updates and
still they will not shut off sometimes. No error
messages appear and the screen stops on the shutting down
screen, sometimes they shut down. I used to have this
problem on windows 98 and I downloaded a patch and this
solved my problems. Is there anything else I could try to
solve this problem on the brand new windows xp machines.

I have even installed all the lastest virus patches and
run virus scans but to no avail. I have checked event
viewer and I am now totaly lost on new idea's to try.
