new PC build suggestions needed

Grant

It has been about 4 yrs since I've built my last PC, and at least as long
since I've posted here. I want to build a new PC. But I'm a bit out of
touch with this subject these days.

But I'd like to spend very little vor this one. Which will be mostly a
inernet surfing, a little home office stuff, and very little home photo
editing at the location I plan to keep it.

I'd like to start with a good base that I possibly could expand on if
needed.

What to get? Price is important. Overclocking is not gunna happen on this
one. No gaming. Dependable performance is key. One that I can get up and
running and not mess with.

1. Tower/power supply?
2. Motherboard/processor/ram?
3. DVD/CD/RW?
4. On board Lan/audio/video? (or not)

Go to Mwave or newegg and put together a bare bones system using sempron or
celeron based boards. Look to Aopen for a well equipped Mainboard thats
reliable at a good price. Use an Antec case and you'll get a decent power
supply.

Kind of hard to make a good suggestion without your budget or current
system specifications. Without a budget or current system who can guess
what you need upgraded?

I've seen a Sempron 2800, DVD/CDRW laptop at MicroSystems for 500USD,
$300 similar desktops all with XP Home installed or Celeron cpus, also
Sempron 64bit 3000 with motherboard for 80USD.

I just bought intel 820, Asus P5wd2, 2 x 1GB DDR2 memory , 2 HD 80 GB sata
II, All in Wonder X600 pro 256MB, case: antec sonata II and win XP 64 pro.
I put system in raid 0. It runs realy verry fast.

A lot of new technology comper to the system thar I bought 4 years ago:

CPU duble core, 64bit
"pins" are on MB not on CPU
Two Sata II HD in raid o give very fast data transfer.
Video card is on 16 psi Express slot
Case has drowers for HD and DVD drives, 12 cm fen.

That sounds like a nice system, but I would have to believe it would
be an extreme overkill for "internet surfing, a little home office
stuff and very little home photo editing"

most everything in the world would be these days as compared to 4 years ago.
but the real question still abounds - how much waiting are you ready to
do????

blow the budget buy the most pc you can for the time and get the most life
out of it.

I'd like to only spend around $400US for a box that is ready to hook to the
monitor we have. I have the software already.
And thanks to all above for the insight. :)
