Hi All

Strange one this.

Every time Word 2003 starts up or the New doc button is clicked to start a
new one the cursor starts at the very top of the print layout. As if there
is no header whatsoever.

As soon as you click on Headers and Footers to show the header and then
mouse click below the default header, the cursor flashes in the usual, what
I would call, default place.

I thought this meant that the normal.doc (??) template was corrupt, as this
only happens on 3 x XP Pro machines in the school, but having re-done this
template as new one it still starts with the cursor at the very top of the
page.

Is there a setting somewhere in Word that I need to click so that this odd
behaviour is corrected?

I want to cursor to start at the usual default place of around an inch down
from the top.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Close Word if it is running.
Find all copies of normal.dot on the machine, and delete or rename
them.
When you start Word it will create a new "standard" normal.dot for
you. You can then customise it to your liking.

Good Luck,

This really isn't an XP question, but did you check to see which View
you're using. If you choose Normal, the cursor will be at the top of
the page, but your margins are still present - you can verify that by
doing a Print preview. If you choose Print Layout from the View menu,
you'll see the whole page, margins and all.

HI All.
Just Reviewing how to use newsgroups in Outlook Express for school classes and saw your pondery.
Here is answer to your question from Microsoft.
------------------------
Show or hide white space in print layout view
You can save screen space in print layout view (print layout view: A view of a document or other object as it will appear when you print it. For example, items such as headers, footnotes, columns, and text boxes appear in their actual positions.) by hiding the white space on the top and bottom of each page and the gray space between pages.

a.. Move the insertion point to the top or bottom of the page and click the Show White Space or Hide White Space button.
Tip

a.. You can hide white space by default by clicking Options on the Tools menu, and clearing the White space between pages check box on the View tab.

ENJOY you new found Freedom!!!!!
Cheers

You've posted to an XP OS newsgroup but your question has nothing to do with
the XP OS. Best to post to a Word newsgroup for Word questions. Also the
help_and_support newsgroup is for questions on the help system in XP, not a
place for general questions about XP nor for questions on applications that
run on XP.

Look at the newsgroups under microsoft.public.word.
microsoft.public.word.newusers or microsoft.public.word.pagelayout might be
what you want.
