New MS Powertoy TweakUI versions for XP

(Note: my Home XP version took the 32-bit tweakui.)

The second update is to Microsoft's popular PowerToy TweakUI, this
time the Windows XP version was updated with quite a number of
noticeable improvements. Microsoft also added support for Windows
Server 2003, and also released a 64-bit version. Official you'll need
Windows XP Service Pack 1 or higher for this TweakUI version. I
haven't been able to test if it also works on the "Gold" release of
Windows XP (no service pack), since my XP systems are all up-to-date
on service packs. You can download the setup file directly from the
Microsoft download server. Here's a link to the 32-bit version: [
http://windows-help.net/cgi-bin/2003/6.26.cgi?62605
] [147 KB], and here's the location of the 64-bit [
http://windows-help.net/cgi-bin/2003/6.26.cgi?62606 ] [224 KB]
version.

Not to be nitpicky, but many people would prefer to download MS updates
direct from MS instead of through a link that they aren't familiar with.

As far as the Tweak UI being new, I thought the site said it was from April.
Not exactly ancient, but it's not this week, either.

Tsk tsk... Picky picky picky! Pick too much and you're
going to end up with boogers on your fingers! :)

Actually you can go directly to the source at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Secondly while TWEAKUI has been updated; the REST of the
Powertoys have NOT. So the page shows a date of 04/23/2002.

That is 2002. Like LAST YEAR.

The new tweakui is 1. FOR XP with SP1 ONLY!!

The new tweakui is dated: Tuesday, July 15, 2003

YOU MUST REMOVE THE OLD TWEAKUI BEFORE USING THE NEW ONE.

I've put it in. It's okies. Nothing actually wonderful
EXCEPT I *love* having the drive letters BEFORE the drive
labels on local and network drives. YAY!

The other "new" features aren't that important to me.

KELLY, the wonderful helpful great fantastic always
giving critter, will LOVE that tweak ui allows a place to
increase that stupid retarded imbecilic 400 bags limit. If
there was EVER a part of the software that needed re-writing
that bags stuff sure does!

Anyway, hope this all helps. :)

Now go wash! Ewwww!! :)

Nah, nits are in your hair. On your head. Not up the nose.

Good thing to know that Tweak UI has been updated, though. It's the sort of
thing that I download and fiddle with, then forget it exists. Maybe I'll
give it another shot and see if I'm missing anything fun.

There really are some nice things in it. I use these
parts:

You can change the "My Documents" to another folder, like
one NOT buried under and in Documents and Settings - so you
can find the dang thing.

You can stop the autoplay feature for CDs and DVDs.

You can Autologon if you are the only user on that
system.

You can put the drive letters in front of the drive
labels so you see a,b,c,d,e,f,g, in a straight row - very easy
on the eyes.

You can change the sort order for names BACK to the
ORIGINAL way yuo got used to in ALL PREVIOUS versions of
windows. - I mean they spent YEARS telling us; "sort this
way" and now they change it?!!? WTF. Nuh UH!

Turn OFF that STUPID RETARDED "Shortcut to" nonsense and
TAKE AWAY that silly "arrow" for aesthetics.

Oh and the TEMPLATES!! Yes yes!! You can get RID OF a TON
of WORTHLESS TRASH on the "NEW" context menu. I mean "new
this" "new that" - yeah I'm always right clicking and using
"new wav file" - suuuuurrrree I am. NOT!

The very BEST thing about Tweakui is that it comes up on
boot up, sets what you told it to and then IT GOES AWAY AND
DOES NOT STAY AROUND IN MEMORY TO BUG YOU.

NOT EVEN AS A SERVICE.

I've used Tweakui in Windows since Win98 without any
problems without any conflicts with other programs.

Hope it all helps.

DON'T FORGET THOUGH; if you have "played with it before"
then it is STILL installed on your system, - unless you
uninstalled it - and you need to UNINSTALL IT first before
using the new version.

Will this work with W2K Pro SP4?

Actually I think a ton of people would like to download anything from
another source than go to Mickey Mouse and all the crap you have to deal
with.

I dunno. If it's a website you're familiar with, that's one thing, but a
link from a newsgroup that pops up and says "do you want to download" seems
less secure. And even if the name of the poster and/or the name of the link
looks legit, that doesn't mean they haven't been spoofed.
