New mobo old hard drive with XP Pro SP2 os on it

Hi,

I have just set up a new box with new mobo, display and all but because
I have so many program set up, I want to use my old Hard drive with the
XP o/s on it.

I can clone it and then use the clone so I don't mess up the original if
it all falls over.

I will go into Bios on boot to be sure it can see the drive etc.

Is there anything else I should know?

You'll likely need to do a repair installation (in-place upgrade) of Windows
XP. Everything should remain intact - best you use a CD with *at least* the
same service pack integrated into it as you had installed on the hard drive.

And - it may not work - period (this whole thing you are trying) - depending
on the differences between old and new systems.

Thank you for your help.

I have decided to bite the bullet and install XP to a new hard drive and
copy my programs and data over.

Thanks again.

Its assumed your version of winxp is a retail version, otherwise no can do.
You cannot usually copy programs, unless by that you mean the program
installation / setup file, that you downloaded from the internet.
If you installed a program from cd/dvd you need to reinstall from that media
