New Message Spelling Check Disabled

Outlook 2003 with Word 2003 as the email editor

In the main Outlook window, in Tools > Options > Spelling tab > the box
"Always check spelling before sending" is checked.

In Word, in Tools > Options > Spelling and Grammar tab > the box "Check
spelling as you type" is checked.

Every time I start a new message Spelling Check is disabled because
Tools > Language > Set Language > the box "Do not check spelling and
grammar" is checked. Before I compose an email, I always un-check the
box to get Spelling Check to work, but how can I get Outlook to start
the New Message window with the box un-checked?

Tools > Language > Set Language > the box "Do not check spelling and
grammar" is checked.

Uncheck this box, and restart your outlook, please post again to
cofirm

That's what I'm saying. I uncheck the box, but the next time I start a
new message, I have to uncheck it again. I do it for every message
unless the message is so simple I trust my spelling (and that's taking a
chance). It doesn't matter if I close Outlook and restart. Every new
message needs the box unchecked.

How do I get the new message to start with the box unchecked?

normal.dot has the box unchecked.

It wasn't this way before. I've only been living with this for a couple
of months. I decided It was time to figure this out.

Are you adding a signature? Word uses a style for the sig and the style has
spelling disabled. If you aren't careful, you can easily begin typing in the
sig and not know it. to see if this is the cause - right click on the
section that doesn't get spell checked and see if a menu displays a list of
sigs to choose from.

to help you see where the sig begins and make it harder to accidentally type
in the sig block, add two dashes (--) as the first line of the sig.

Yes, and I think I remember playing with the sigs about the time the
prob developed.

No matter where is set the insertion cursor, except *after* the sig on
the left, when I go through the procedure, Tools > Language > Set
Language > the box, "Do not check spelling and
grammar" is checked. However, as you suggest, the problem has something
to do with the sig., because when I use "none" (doing this via Word)
for the signature, the box is not checked, and because when the
insertion cursor is after the sig, the box is not checked. Somehow the
sig style bleeds over to the upper body, I think.

I tried creating a new sig including the two dashes at the start, but
the same thing happens. The box is still checked when I start a new
message.

I'm reading up on styles right now.
