New mail missing from inbox

One of my users has rouble with his inbox since we updated hin to Office
2003. He is on XP, Windows exchange 2000. When he opened his Outlook, it
would only replicate with the exchange server up to the day before we
installed the new office version. He was running in the exchange cached
mode. If we take off the cached mode, he gets all his new messages as well.
If we turn the cached mode back on he only gets up to the day before the new
install. Having searched the knowledge base, it states that the 2003 version
of outlook allows for larger OST files. Does anybody have any ideas as to
why this is happening or is it just a coincidence that he reached his limit
just before we installed the new version?

Thanks in advanced.

James.

Under a default install (or upgrade) of Outlook 2003, the software will not
do an automatic upgrade of the OST file. I believe this behavior can be
forced by setting a couple of registry keys via a group policy. Microsoft
probably didn't go this route by default because the site needs to
acknowledge that this is going to cause a resync of the entire mailbox.
This could be disastrous in user perception if said sync occoured across a
slow WAN connection.

I take it that we are saying the OSt file is the cause of the missing emails
in cached mode?
