new mail message

I cannot get a new mail message to open. I have tried File-new-mail message and nothing happens. I have rebooted and tried the shortcut button and nothing happens. Any ideas?
 
Try running Detect and Repair from the Help menu. You'll need to have your
Office CD handy.
