I bought a new hard drive and installed it in my xppro machine. I have a C
and D drive, the new one is H. I went into manage/disk management and
formated the drive... It would not let me format to FAT32 .. only to NTFS..
My other two drives are FAT32 and I would like to have this one also.. I
have gone through all the options, and none will allow me to convert. I
deleted the volume and reformatted but again it only gave me the option for
NTFS. It won't let me change from a dynamic drive to a basic. Will I have
to buy a program to convert this or does MS have a convert program that I
can use. My other drives gave me a choice... Is this an SP2 issue?? By the
way, the western digital software for formatting their dive that came with
the drive, does not even make an attempt to format the drive. The
formatting program does not see the drive but the diagnostic program from
western digital, sees the drive and says all is OK?? Hope someone can
help..

Were your other drives below 32GB in size?
Windows XP can only natively format FAT32 partitions up to 32GB in size.

Personally - I don't see the point any longer of NOT using NTFS..

Format larger than 32GB FAT32 within Windows XP with this utility:

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for

No, my other drive is a 120 gig that I have partitioned 40/80... I have not
heard of a limitation on FAT32. Learn something new everyday.. Thanks for
the info, I'll check it out.

XP will not create or format a partition bigger than 32 GB in FAT 32 -
and it is usually not a good idea. If you feel you must have that as
FAT 32 (and XP will be perfectly happy with the mix) you need to boot a
Win98 startup floppy and use its FDISK to 'Delete non-DOS partition' and
then make a FAT 32 one or two . And there is a limit at 120 (?) GB at
which that stops working too
